A story of my one true love ……

Ewden Valley, a watercolour sketch, was painted from a sketch I undertook on my first date with Anne Hutchinson, the woman I was later to marry and the only woman other than my mistress the moors that has seen me stripped bare emotionally. For it is Anne that has been my foundation and confidence, purchasing this very painting so that it could not be sold to anyone else, standing alongside me from my very first gallery at Dodworth in 1963, through to Barnsley 1968 and then to the gallery opening in Holmfirth in 1986.

We still have the painting hung at home as a reminder of how far this pathway has taken me, my life has been shaped by two factors; the death of my father and the Yorkshire landscape. Unfortunately I could not have had one without the other, which is a cause of great sadness to me.
